India slip to 162/4 at lunch

South Africa took two wickets in the morning session of the fourth day of the first Test as India slipped to 162/4 at lunch, still 166 runs in arrears of South Africa's first innings total of 558/6 declared.
There was less movement for the South African bowlers in the morning than there had been on the third evening when Dale Steyn destroyed India's middle and lower order in the first innings with an explosive spell of reverse swing.
Instead the wickets of Murali Vijay and Subramaniam Badrinath came via errors in judgement by the batsmen. At the other end though Sachin Tendulkar was providing a batting master class intent still on scoring runs and cutting the deficit thereby putting the South Africans under some form of pressure.
India resumed on 66/2 with Tendulkar on 15 and Vijay 27, with Tendulkar taking the initiative and looking to score at every opportunity. Neither Steyn nor Morne Morkel who opened the bowling today could extract much movement through the air, with Steyn at various times holding the ball across the seam and also attempting cutters.
South Africa's lines were inconsistent and all the bowlers barring Harris - who was bowling to a plan trying to land the ball in the rough - and to a lesser extent Steyn were guilt wasting too many deliveries down the leg-side.
